Tricking - Alex Omidvar
Personal Work
2021
Tricking is an art form. It is a fast, explosive and highly expressive movement sport, combining martial arts, gymnastics and dance into sequences of kicks, flips, twists and transitions. It’s as much about individual expression and body control as it is about athletic ability.
I first came across Alex Omidvar through his social channels, where he was documenting his training, daily life and progression as a tricker. I was immediately drawn to the combination of power, speed and precision — and to the challenge of trying to capture something so fast and fluid through still photography.
Alex and I began collaborating before the pandemic, working together on location and in the studio to explore just how far we could push the idea. The project became a study in movement, timing and control, using light, space and Alex’s physicality to create images that felt as dynamic as the sport itself.
What started with a curiosity about an unfamiliar sport became a long-running collaboration and an opportunity to explore what still photography can do with movement that seems almost impossible to hold still.
